A Spring Refresh for the House

A Spring Refresh for the House

We had a few days that tipped into the low 70’s a couple weeks ago and I can’t believe it - what a tease that was! But, with those warmer daytime temperatures and the feeling of Spring just around the corner, I can’t help but feel that familiar Spring Fever that hits after months of the bitter cold. Even though it is still premature for us to Spring Clean our landscaping and plant fresh flowers (my Dad has always said not to plant anything until after Tax Day because the temperature can still drop), it is not too early for a Spring Refresh inside the house.

To me, a Spring Refresh focuses more on refreshing decor and implementing thoughtful organization and less on actual spring cleaning. (That’s a whole other can of worms that I’ll open in another post.)

I usually like to start with lighting a fresh scented candle (this one is my FAVE right now) or some fragrant flowers (those purple hyacinth bulbs on our entry table seriously fill the entire downstairs with their sweet fragrance). It sounds too simple to be impactful but it really is amazing how smell plays a big part in my mood, motivation and general creativeness relative to the changing season. As Spring approaches, I say that now is not the time for pumpkin, cinnamon or pine tree scented anything.

I also like to look around the house and see what is working for me and what isn’t in terms of style of decor. It’s perfectly acceptable to shift your style a little depending on the seasons. Personally, I’ve been really inspired by more neutral, coastal tones and textures lately - but not “beach” themed - know what I mean?White, tan, sky blue, woven textures, lighter wood tones, linen, stripes, watercolor, brass, ceramic, marble, minimal decor, etc. feels like a breath of fresh, Spring air.

As I am still trying to identify and work out what my style is for this house while craving a little update for Spring, I am realizing that I have been drawn to slightly more traditional furniture pieces with touches modern accents. Check out my Pinterest boards to see what I’ve been pinning lately!

In addition to finding some great inspiration online, I found some great pieces from Amazon that I’m really loving and would be beautiful and purposeful in refreshing our home for Spring. I’m especially loving the pinstripe flannel sheets, woven baskets, candles and planters.
