Best of Etsy: Affordable Decorative Accessories + Styling Tips

n my opinion, good design starts with the basic pieces that ground the room and give it purpose. For example, a living room should have something to sit or lounge on (sofa, chairs, sectional, etc). That's the primary purpose of the room. Sitting and relaxation. There are also secondary essentials that make a bare-bones sterile living room feel softer and more comfortable esthetically such as an area rug, coffee table, lamps, and end tables. The tertiary element of the room is the decorative accessories that bring the whole design together and finish the space. It's the jewelry and hand bag of interior design and should not be overlooked.

What's In My Shopping Cart: Deals on Pillows, Furniture & Decor

Are you an impulsive shopper? Not me - I like to think it over, do research and read reviews, and carefully make a decision. For example, it took me 20 minutes to consider all the shades of lipstick in the brand I wanted before settling on one. Even then, I walked out of the store empty handed because, let's be real, I really don't need another lipstick. The same goes for shopping for things for my home. I think and mull it over for a while (sometimes weeks) before pulling the trigger. So you know that when I find something worth telling you about, it's something that I have given a lot of thought!

What's All This Talk About LIKETOKNOW.IT?

You may have noticed that in the last few months, I have been posting more images on Instagram that are tagged with a LikeToKnow.it link. Many fashion bloggers use the app to promote their wardrobes to their followers who want to know where they, too, can purchase that sweater, skirt, earrings, etc. But in the last couple of years, LikeToKnow.it has partnered with more and more brands for the home, too! This is something that is really exciting to me as an Influencer/blogger AND as a consumer. Let me back up just a minute.

Casual Friday + a Spring Cleaning Giveaway!

It's Friday again! We will be locking ourselves in our bathroom all weekend to make a good push towards being ready to install some tile. We are kind of at that point in the project where we are saying to each other "alright, let's get this thing done already." Thankfully, we have been using the second full bathroom down the hall which has not been the worst thing ever. Since our closet is through our bathroom, getting dressed and putting laundry away has not been the most convenient. No complaining, though! I'm thankful that we are in a position to be able to renovate our home together.

Keep reading for some Friday thoughts and a GIVEAWAY!

7 Ideas for Front Porch Plants + Planter Round Up Under $100

Even though much of the country is currently covered in snow, it is, technically, Spring now! We have seen glimpses of warmer days that are quickly snuffed out by a cold snap. I'll let you in on a gardening rule of (green) thumb: Don't plant annual flowers until after Tax Day (because there can still be one last cold snap). A couple of my young hydrangea plants from last year got slimed by the cold a few weeks ago. As we look forward to those warmer days sticking around, our house projects will move outside (see our 2018 house project goals here). While yard work days are just around the corner, I wanted to take this time to talk about curb appeal and the importance of treating the exterior of your home with as much love and attention as the interior.

Target Finds: DIY Wall Art, Modern Patio Furniture & Accessories

I never seem to be able to get out of Target with only the things on my list. Last week as I was walking around the Threshold and Project 62 section, I heard a couple talking as they were walking down the aisle - he said to her something along the lines "I'm going to hold your hand until we get out of here because the longer we're in here, the more you spend." I laughed out loud because John tells me that EVERY TIME he goes with me to Target. Maybe that's why I try to go to Target by myself now!

Casual Friday

It's been a hot minute since my last Casual Friday post!

  • So much design inspiration from Squarefoot Interior Design. I love how Lada mixes materials to create a collected look.
  • Our entry is in the process of getting a little spring refresh. I shared on my Stories last night as John hung our new round entry mirror. I have been eyeing this one for some time now and finally pulled the trigger. It's not too heavy (for it's enormous 37 inch diameter) and has really sturdy hardware already secured to the back.
